In this day in age there is a running trend in Hollywood of making sequels to movies that were hits many moons ago. In recent years we’ve had sequels to Dumb and Dumber, Zoolander, and more recently Independence Day. All of which are arguably dreadful, which only adds more pressure to upcoming sequels that are following this current trend. One movie that is gaining a lot of attention is the movie with the questionable existence, the upcoming Blade Runner sequel. The original Blade Runner was a hit back in 1982 that had an ending that left audiences questioning what was really happening, akin to that of the modern day ending of Inception. I won’t spoil that ending here, but if you haven’t seen Blade Runner I highly recommend that you get that issue sorted immediately.
For a lot of people the ending of Blade Runner is something that they love, not knowing the real truth that leaves a veil of mystery over the entire movie watching experience. So the idea of a sequel which could potentially solve that mystery does not sit well with a lot of people, and as such are not too happy with the idea, but there has been some recent casting news that may turn people on a little more to the idea of a Blade Runner 2.
Jared Leto has been cast in the Blade Runner sequel in a yet unknown role, but is a piece of casting news that I am excited about. Whatever you thought of the recent Suicide Squad, Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker is one of the hotly debated topics surrounding the movie, and to most did a pretty fantastic job.
Jared Leto is an actor that takes his roles very seriously, and is one of the most hard working method actors in the business today. Leto has the right level of mystery, intrigue and just general weirdness for a movie set in the future and filled with humanoid robotic synths. This casting also gives me a little bit of hope for the movie as Leto is a very selective actor when it comes to the rolls he chooses, which normally turn out to be fantastic.
Reflecting on what I’ve wrote so far in this article I’m not really sure why I rambled on at the beginning about the idea of sequels but I like it and it’s staying in. Regardless I want to know what YOU think about this casting news, and what you think about the idea of the Blade Runner sequel in general. Let me know in the comments below or hit me up on Twitter!
