So Super Bowl 2016 is upon us, and you know what that means? Awesome game, awesome food, awesome adverts, but arguable the most important part, awesome movie trailers! There have been a lot of great trailers shown over the years at the Super Bowl, and this year was no exception, let’s start it off with arguably the smallest movie shown this year:
Eddie the Eagle
This trailer was clever due to the fact that it got some great NFL players to say how much they enjoyed the movie, in order to appeal more to the sports fans in the world. Eddie the Eagle isn’t one of my most anticipated movies of the year, but this trailer certainly makes it feel like a more ‘feel-good’ movie that will have a lot of heart to it. Also with a Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman team leading it, certainly gives it more of an appeal.
Just when you think you could not get any more excited for Deadpool, he only goes and drops this awesome little nugget of awesomeness! By now I’m pretty sure everyone is aware of Deadpool and this movie, but the team just keep knocking it out of the park, and this latest trailer does not disappoint! He may be seeing America on Friday, but I shall be seeing you on Wednesday Mr. Pool.
Captain America: Civil War
This is the first trailer that shows us the entire line up squaring off against one another, and does it get me even more excited to see this movie! United We Stand definitely seems to be the theme of the trailer, however this does not seem to be on Cap or Tony’s minds. It gives us a little bit of a better understanding as to why the two heroes have beef with each other, and it also gives us out first look at Ant-Man beside the rest of the Avengers which is awesome, however we are still missing that money shot of Spidey. #TeamCap
10 Cloverfield Lane
The first Cloverfield was a small but awesome movie, and although this movie seems to divert from the found footage style of the original, it stills looks awesome. On top of being a monster movie, it also reminds of a Misery/Saw type of set up with John Goodman keeping them ‘hostage’ for their own good. I can’t wait to see Ramona Flowers fight baby Cloverfield though, which is also teased towards the end.
The Jungle Book
Okay I won’t lie, this is one of my favourite trailers of this years Super Bowl and got me even more excited for this movie. It was like reliving my childhood, and was one of the Disney movies I watched a lot growing up. The cast is incredibly and each fit their character perfectly, especially Ben Kingsley, he really nailed Bagheera and Christopher Walken as King Louie. It made me emotional and smile and laugh and I cannot wait to see it.
I’ll admit, I have only ever seen the first Bourne movie, so this trailer probably didn’t excite me as much as it should have, but it did excite me and make me want to go back and watch the rest. Also after watching the Martian, I want to see everything that Matt Damon does from now on. It looked exciting and thrilling, and I get the entire tone of the movie and the series from this short 30 second trailer.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Out of the Shadows
I was never a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltes growing up, and I haven’t seen the first in this new rebooted version, so I’ll admit this trailer didn’t get me that excited. It’s kinda cool to see Beepop and Rocksteady, and now Krang and it seems that they are definitely delivering to the fans of the series. It does look like silly fun though and something that I think I’ll check out for no other reason that Stephen Amell. I couldn’t quite sit through the first one, but maybe I’ll give it another go before this one comes out.
Independence Day: Resurgence
I liked the first Independence Day, and I like the look of this one too. A bit like the Stephen Amell comment above, I will see anything with Jeff Goldblum in it, and this certainly is no exception. The CGI actually looked pretty decent from the small portion of world wide destruction that we managed to see, but the aliens are back, and they look mad. Here’s hoping that they haven’t virus proofed their entire alien network, or jet fighter proofed their mothership.
Alice: Through the Looking Glass
This is possibly my least favourite trailer from the bunch that was released, but that is purely because I am not an Alice in Wonderland fan. It does look great though visually, and I’m sure it will be a hit for those who were fans of the original, I mean it did gross over one billion dollars worldwide so there’s no doubt this one will be successful, however none of it will be from me. That’s nothing against the movie or the people involved, it’s just not my thing.
I think the X-Men trailer is one of my favourites from this years line up of Super Bowl trailers, as it shows us so much more of each of the mutants, old and new. I think the character of Apocalypses looks fantastic, and is definitely out to wreak havoc with his horsemen. We get a better look at the new mutants who all look great, such as Storm, Archangel and Psylocke, as well as returning favourites Professor X, Magneto and Mystique. Magneto looks are bad ass and as troubled as ever, and the X-Men certainly have their work cut out for them. As excited as I am, X-Men was probably my least anticipated comic book movie of 2016, but this trailer now has me conflicted.
So what was your favourite trailer of this years Super Bowl? Let me know in the comments below and let me know what you wish they showed. I won’t lie, I was hoping we would get a Rogue One teaser, but they’re probably saving that for Civil War, or even around the time of Daredevil. Also I am aware of the new Batman v Superman promo shots, but they don’t technically count as trailers. You can find all my other social media outlets under the ‘Social Side’ tab.
