So the new trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice dropped and I must say, I fairly enjoyed it. While it isn’t as good or as engaging as the first trailer (in my humble opinion) it still had some great shots and some great dialogue between the characters with some interesting reveals. Now I’ll mention here that this trailer probably showed a little bit more than I would have liked, but I don’t imagine it spoils the entire movie. It does show some things that I would much rather have experienced for the first time on the big screen seeing the movie for the first time which I am going to talk about in this post, so if you want to remain “trailer spoiler” free, then I suggest you stop reading.
Now to be fair, this is Warner Bros. and they seem to know what they are doing, so if they think what they showed is not a massive spoiler, then I’ll tend to take their word for it this time. The big reveal of course being the main villain in the movie which makes our titular heroes put their differences aside in order to overcome an even greater evil. That villain of course being Doomsday!
Now I’ll be honest, I’m not 100% happy with the way Doomsday looks, but who knows maybe it’ll look better on the big screen and more in motion. I have the same gripe I had when I first saw the reveal of Wonder Woman, it isn’t the character I grew up with watching the Justice League and Justice League: Unlimited cartoons and reading the comics. If the trailer is also to be believed, it looks like Doomsday is the reincarnated General Zod, or at least a mangled version of him after Lex Luthor has had his weird way with his corpse, which again I’m not 100% happy with. Sure it’s good to mix things up, but I’d rather the comic book incarnation of Doomsday with the origins to go with it. I’m sure this will still be excellent, it’s Doomsday for crying out loud, but I can’t help but have my little doubts about it.
What is definitely cool about this trailer though is the back and forth between Batman and Superman, and seeing the Trinity on the big screen together for the first time! I won’t lie, seeing them together made me like the idea of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman so much more. I was never against the idea, but to me something just didn’t quite click, she didn’t look like the Wonder Woman I wanted, again going back to the animated version I grew up with in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, but that shot made me feel so much more comfortable about her in the role, she actually looked like Wonder Woman.
Again while I didn’t like this trailer overall as much as the last, my excitement for the movie has definitely increased, especially for Wonder Woman, and I will be there opening night at the Imax!
